そう言えば最近は日本各地で冷え込んでいますよね。
Speaking of recent cold weather all around Japan,
だがせっかく北海道に来たのに寒さが足りないと思う方々に朗報です。
I have good news for guys who feel not cold enough even in Hokkaido.
今回は日本で一番寒い町「陸別町」についてご紹介します。
I will introduce you about “Rikubetu” as known as coldest city in Japan.
 

陸別町とは！？

日本一寒い町と知られる陸別町は１月の平均最低気温が−20.2℃ 史上最低温度は1978年の−38℃としばれる(北海道弁で寒い)町です。
The coldest city “Rikubetu” ‘s average temperature in Jan is below minus 20.2℃. In 1978, the city had marked bellow minus 38℃ that is enough to freeze everything.
 

陸別町は東北海道のちょうど真ん中に位置し、周りが山に囲まれた平地(盆地)のため夏と冬の温度差が60℃以上あるとても激しい寒暖差がある地帯です。 アクセスは札幌から車で６時間程度、バスだと帯広経由で8時間程度です。
“Rikubetu” is located in middle of East Hokkaido and surrounded by mountain, which makes this town really harsh to live. If you would like to go over there from Sapporo, it takes around 6 hours by car, 8 hours by bus via 十勝(Tokachi).
ただ寒いだけで何もないじゃないかと思うあなた！
If you think there is nothing except frozen world, you are wrong!
 

なんとオーロラが見られるのです。メルヘンですね。

You can literally see Aurora! How romantic it is

とは言っても北極・南極圏で見られるオーロラと違って陸別町などの比較的低緯度で見られるオーロラを低緯度オーロラと言います。 しかしこのオーロラが見られる確率は約10年おきに数回程度という超低確率です。
But this one is not common Aurora can be seen in arctic region, it’s called “ low latitude Aurora” which can be seen in the low latitude place. Unfortunately this Aurora is extremely quite rare and it happens just few times in 10 years circle.
またオーロラだけではなく寒く透き通った陸別町の空は星を観測するのに最高の環境で町には天文台もあります。
In addition, this city is one of the best places to observe the stars because of cold weather. There also is an observatory in the town, which you can look up to night sky.
 

 
また2月3日（土）～4日（日）には「しばれフェスティバル」という陸別町の寒さを体感するためのイベントがあり、参加者は極寒の陸別町の夜を外で過ごす人間耐寒テストと呼ばれるチャレンジもあるそうです。 もし興味があれば是非陸別町に足を運んでみてください。
On 3rd to 4th Feb, There is winter festival that you can actually experience to stay night in tiny balloon shelters were made by ices. If you are interesting in these activities, please come to visit “Rikubetu”
